The landscape at Rocky Mountain National Park is some of the state's most stunning. Most tourists don't know that the western entrance to the park, which is closer to Grand Lake, sees barely a tenth as much foot traffic as the more popular Estes Park side. Timed admission phrazle reservations are necessary between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., although the park's calmer, wilder side is easily accessible by car at any other time of day. On my most recent excursion, I was fortunate enough to spot a bear, an elk, and a moose.
